HOW TO PRIORITISE YOUR PACKING

With proper planning and prioritisation, you can make your moving process smoother and less stressful.

As the leaves begin to turn and the air grows crisp, many homeowners find themselves preparing for a move during the colder months of the year. Below are some tips to help you keep your packing on track.

START WITH SEASONAL ITEMS

Begin by packing away your summer items. Swimwear, beach gear, and light clothing can be safely stored as you will not need them in the immediate future. This will free up space and allow you to focus on the essentials for the cooler months ahead.

ORGANISE YOUR WINTER ESSENTIALS

Keep your autumn clothing, boots, and outerwear easily accessible. These items should be among the last things you pack, ensuring you have appropriate attire for the move and the first few days in your new home.

PACK ROOM BY ROOM

Tackle one room at a time, starting with areas you use less frequently. Guest rooms, storage areas, and formal living spaces are good places to begin. Leave everyday living areas like the kitchen and main bathroom for last.

CREATE A BOX WITH ESSENTIALS

Pack a box with items you will need immediately upon arrival at your new home. This should include:
  • Toiletries
  • A change of clothes
  • Basic kitchen items (kettle, mugs, plates, cutlery)
  • Bedding
  • Important documents
  • Cleaning supplies

CONSIDER THE WEATHER

Autumn and winter weather can be unpredictable. Ensure you have easy access to umbrellas, raincoats, and waterproof covers for your belongings during the move.

DECLUTTER AS YOU GO

Moving is an excellent opportunity to declutter. As you pack, set aside items you no longer need or use. Consider donating these items or holding a pre-move sale.

LABEL EVERYTHING CLEARLY

Clearly label each box with its contents and the room it belongs in. This will make unpacking in your new home much more efficient.

PACK VALUABLES SEPARATELY

Keep important documents, jewellery, and other valuables in a separate, secure container that you can transport personally.
Remember, a well-organised move is a smoother move. By prioritising your packing and staying organised, you can ensure a successful autumn relocation to your new home.
